Virtual Lecture Series (VLS01)

Description
COLA is proud to offer the 1st Virtual Winter Lecture Series of four complimentary lectureships for healthcare professionals to enjoy. COLA’s Virtual Winter Lecture Series will provide a platform for industry thought leaders to share ideas on relevant topics in clinical laboratory science. In addition, the series will give a glimpse into the new perspectives and depth of knowledge sharing at COLA’s Annual Laboratory Enrichment Forum.

January Lecture Series: Onboarding Molecular Diagnostic Testing: What you need to know before you start.

Molecular diagnostic testing has revolutionized the way clinical and public health laboratories diagnose diseases and track its progression. Molecular tests are utilized with increasing frequency and have supplanted numerous conventional tests, in many areas of laboratory medicine including oncology, infectious diseases, and clinical genetics. The lecture will address quality management in molecular testing and the various nuisances of molecular methodologies used in the clinical laboratory space, as well as an overview of some practical applications.
Presenter: Tariq Adwan, PhD

Dr. Adwan has extensive experience in molecular diagnostics, laboratory quality management, clinical education, and overall laboratory operations. He graduated with honors from Misericordia University with a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry and received his Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Stem Cells and Development from the University of Colorado where he also did his postdoctoral fellowship. Dr. Adwan received several grants and awards including the National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Health and the young alumnus Award from Misericordia University. In addition, he has authored a number of high-impact, peer-reviewed publications and is actively engaged with various working groups and scientific advisory committees dedicated to improving the quality standards in laboratory services. He has been invited to present his work at various scientific meetings including the conference for the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology

December Lecture Series: It Takes Two: Relationship of the Laboratory Director and Technical Consultant
The brief lecture will address the synergy necessary between the technical consultant and laboratory director. The lecture will offer suggestions on how to develop and maintain this vital relationship. The laboratory director and technical consultant must function as a team in order to deliver quality laboratory services to patients. The speaker for this lecture series is Kathy Nucifora, MPH, MT (ASCP).

November Lecture Series: Pulling together the pieces, the role of the clinical laboratory director
The short lecture will focus on the important role of the laboratory director, including the responsibilities and personnel interaction necessary for a successful and efficient quality assessment program. The speaker for this lecture series is Verlin K. Janzen, MD, FAAFP.
